We considered alot of different alternatives to expand our existing concrete patio. We thought about having concrete professionally poured, pavers and using tile.
One day we walked over to one of our VERY creative neighbors, and noticed how they used a Quikrete Pathway concrete mold to build a pathway along the side of their house. After a little bit of research, we KNEW this was the cost effective alternative for us!We started off by leveling the ground, we used gravel to try to level uneven areas. Next, place the mold on the desired area and pour the concrete. Then, pick up the mold and smooth out the edges. Once you are done with that step, pick up the mold and place it beside the finished concrete "block" and start over. In areas where a complete mold will not fit, you can overlap an existing block, and fill in with more concrete, as shown below.
We also made some stepping stones with the same mold on the right side of the pergola, that leads the way the gate.
Here is the finished product, for now, we stained the pergola and made a flower bed on the front of the patio.
